"Hidden" Ingredients in your Seasoning Blends

"Hidden" Ingredients in your Seasoning Blends

If you’re making conscious choices with food—whether it’s for weight loss, getting back to basics, managing autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, or trying to calm digestive issues—you’d think seasonings with simple ingredients would be safe. But most blends aren’t as clean as they look.
Ever picked up a jar, saw a short ingredient list, and thought, “Finally—just simple and natural”? The problem is, companies don’t have to tell you everything.
Take “onion” on a label. Sounds natural, right? In reality, that usually means powdered onion bought from a bulk supplier. By the time it’s powdered, it often has things added—like anti-caking agents to keep it flowing. And unless a company is chopping, granulating, or grinding their own, chances are the powder comes with “extras” that never make it to the label. Those hidden bits can trigger inflammation, gut issues, or just leave your body feeling off.
And it’s not just onions. Garlic, peppers, fruit powders, herbs, seeds, greens—if it’s a powder, there’s a high chance it was processed in ways you don’t see on the label.
This just scratches the surface of what’s hiding in seasonings. Have allergies to corn, wheat, soy, or mold? You could be aggravating them without even realizing it. In future posts we’ll dig into salt, glutamates, “natural” flavorings, citric acid (hint: it’s not from citrus anymore), and more.
